Barbados Tourism & Visitor Guide
Welcome to Barbados!
Cricket, caves, rum and rhythm. What Barbados lacks in size—the Caribbean island measures a mere 430 sq km (166 sq mi)—it makes up for in character. The island country is one of the Caribbean's most developed and visited tourist destinations and offers a winning combination of sunshine, sand, relaxation and recreation. The coral island annually receives over 3,000 hours of sunshine and is home to turquoise waters, beautiful beaches, Caribbean nightlife and a string of notable sites and attractions. Snorkelling and diving enthusiasts can explore the island's stunning coral reefs, avid golfers can play a round or two on championship links and naturists can explore Harrison's Cave—one of the most well-known cave formations in the Western Hemisphere. Those looking for Caribbean nightlife can head to St. Lawrence Gap on the south coast or 1st and 2nd streets in Holetown on the west coast. The former—known locally as 'the Gap'—is well-known stretch of road that backs onto Dover Beach and is the island hub of 24-hour activity with open-air clubs, restaurants, hotels, apartment and souvenir shops. For further entertainment, visitors can catch a cricket match at Kensington Oval, a festival in the island's capital of Bridgetown (whose historic district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site) or hop on a tour at the Mount Gay Rum Visitor Centre, which is part brewery and part museum of what is reputedly the world's oldest rum maker.Tourist Attractions
